It is that time of year again when many people are on holiday and enjoying the last throws of summer before the return to work and school in September.
Unfortunately holidays do not always work out as planned and what should have been a relaxing break is spoiled by an accident which results in injury and often financial loss.
One of the most common causes of accidents whilst on holiday is the accomodation itself. I have dealt with a number of cases where serious injury has been caused because the accomodation was below an acceptable standard. I dealt with one case where there was a water leak from a washing machine in the chalet booked by my client. As he went into the chalet for the first time with the familiy’s luggage he slipped on the water on the floor and as he fell he sustained a serious injury to his elbow. He was unable to work for several weeks and lost income which I succesfully recovered for him together with compensation for the injury to his elbow.
I also pursued a claim for a client who suffered a serious injury to her hand when a sash window fell onto it.
Accidents also happen in the holiday complex itself often in the outdoor areas and I have succesfully pursued cases where a client has fallen on broken steps or missing tiles around pool areas or even in the pool itself.
Many people do not realise that to be able to pursue a claim the accident does not need to have happened in the UK. It is possible to bring a claim even if the accident happened abroad. The procedure for pursuing a claim for damages for accidents abroad may be different but you are still entitled to claim. A good solicitor with experience of such cases will be able to guide you through the procedure to make sure you receive the compensation you are entitled to.
If you have been involved in an accident whilst on holiday it is always worthwhile seeking legal advice on whether you can bring a claim to compensate you for your injuries and losses.
