It is likely that you will be upset and disorientated.
Try to stay calm. Your priority must be to make sure that your
injuries receive attention. If in any doubt call an ambulance.
Try to remember how the accident occured
and write down as much detail about it as you can. Record names
of any witnesses, with contact details. Do this at the first
convenient moment, because memories fade quickly.
If the accident was a road traffic accident,
call the Police. They will attend if an injury has been sustained
and will usually prepare a very useful report.
If the accident was a fall, slip or trip,
take photographs of the defect you tripped over and measure
it. There is every chance that the defect will be fixed and
without photos and measurements you may have no evidence to
support a claim.
If the accident was at work, ensure that
full details are entered in the accident book.
Record where you are treated and keep a diary
of all the symptoms you suffer because of the accident.
Keep a record of all financial losses and
where possible keep receipts. If you have no receipts just write
down details of the expenses and the date you incurred them.
If you want to claim compensation, or find
out about the possibility of doing so, then contact a specialist
solicitor. Check that the solicitor is an expert and will see
you for free to discuss a possible claim as we do.
Ask about 'no win, no fee' and other means
of funding available to you and ask whether you will keep all
of your compensation if you win.
